Before we serve a single plate, we pause and pray together. Because a meal shared in love feeds far more than the body.
The great pots are lifted from the fire. The line begins to form. Children, elders, and families wait patiently, plates in hand, under the shade of a canopy or the branches of an old tree.
But first, everyone falls silent. Hands are folded, heads bowed. Together we give thanks — for the food, for the hands that prepared it, and for the community gathered to share it. Only then does the serving begin.
For many who come, this is the most reliable meal of their week. Our community kitchens serve the hungry without asking who they are or where they come from. A hot plate of food is offered freely, with a smile, and with dignity.
We have learned that no one leaves a shared table a stranger. In the simple act of eating together, walls come down and community is built. It is one of the oldest lessons of charity: to feed the hungry is to recognise Christ in them.
