Canossian Mission

What We Do

Our Work

We believe every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and belonging — and we build programmes to make that a reality.

Our Approach

The Canossian Way of Compassion in Action

Our guiding principle is simple: go where help is needed most. For us in India, that means the urban communities of Vasai, the fishing villages of Goa, the children who lack access to education, and the families living in extreme poverty.

We work across four core areas — each an expression of the same commitment to people.

Education & Literacy
Building Brighter Futures

Education & Literacy

We provide quality educational support to children and adults in our centres and communities. Our education programmes focus on holistic learning — helping people not just gain knowledge, but develop critical thinking, confidence, and life skills.

Key Activities:

  • After-school tutoring and homework support
  • Adult literacy and numeracy classes
  • Digital skills and computer literacy training
  • Scholarship support for secondary students
  • Early childhood development programmes
Youth Empowerment
Empowering the Next Generation

Youth Empowerment

Youth are at the heart of our mission. We invest in them not just as future leaders, but as active agents of change today. Our youth programmes blend leadership, skills training, mentorship, and community service.

Key Activities:

  • Leadership formation camps and workshops
  • Peer support and mentorship groups
  • Skill development and vocational training
  • Sports and cultural activities
  • Social awareness and civic engagement programmes
Community Youth Centres
A Home for Every Child

Community Youth Centres

Our Community Youth Centres are our most distinctive initiative — safe, welcoming spaces for children and youth to learn, grow, and belong. Rooted in the vision of Giovanni Zuccolo, these centres are joyful environments that develop the whole person: intellectually, socially, and physically.

Key Activities:

  • After-school tutoring and homework help
  • Sports programmes and recreation
  • Arts, music, and cultural activities
  • Annual Inter-Community Youth Gatherings
  • Holiday camps and outreach activities
Service to the Poor
Reaching the Most Vulnerable

Service to the Poor

We do not merely run programmes — we go to where the poor are. Our brothers walk to the homes of the sick and elderly, carry provisions to struggling families, and stay present among the most forgotten of the villages we serve. Ours is a charity of presence and accompaniment.

Key Activities:

  • Home visits to the sick and elderly
  • Community meals and food distribution
  • Rations and provisions for families in need
  • Care and companionship for the homebound
  • Standing beside the poorest of the villages

What Makes Our Youth Centres Unique

Our Youth Centres are not merely a programme — they are a living environment. They have been the cornerstone of our work since the founding of the organisation and remain so today.

01

A Nurturing Environment

Our centres acquire their educational value when they become spaces rich in warmth, belonging, and human connection — where children feel safe to learn and grow.

02

A True Community

The centre becomes a place of life when children, teenagers, adults, and families come together in a shared experience of community, mutual support, and growth.

03

Open to Everyone

This community experience is offered as an opportunity for personal development and social integration — especially for those most at the margins of society.
